about

A note from Lisa:

"Insights" is an archival release. an in-studio session with Evan Oberla: Trombone, Hasan Abdur-Razzaq: Saxophones, and Myself on Drums & Upright Bass. A LoftJazz session from February 6th, 2011.

At that time, I was touring all over Europe & USA as a free jazz & avant-garde drummer. Playing with Simone Weißensfels, Gütner Heinz, Michael Carey, Christiain Howes, Andreas Bøttcher, Friebert Weißmann, Elliot Levin, Wizards, Different Seasons Trio, Nicole Sherburne Quartet, Manfred Herring, LA Jenkins, Ingebørg Freytag, Stan Smith, Ralph "Buzzy" Jones, Roger Hines, Scott Steelman, and many others.

I have always been in love with free-jazz & avant-garde music that features drums, brass, and reeds. I wanted to record albums under my own name that really highlighted those possibilties during this era.

As time permits I will continue to release such archival releases.
My sincere gratitude and respect to Evan Oberla & Hasan Abdur-Razzaq (RIP) for coming and doing these immensely inspired and productive sessions.

I hope the frequency of this music inspires your art in some way.

A note from Evan:

10 years ago to the month, Lisa Bella Donna invited Hasan Abdur-Razzaq and myself to her house to make some music. We warmed ourselves up from the Ohio chill (although fairly warm for February if I recall, not like the current situation) with some coffee and conversation, and then proceeded to record eight improvised tracks. I haven't heard these since we recorded them, and with the recent passing of the legendary musical human being that was Hasan, I reached out to Lisa and finally inquired if she still had these recordings. She responded she did and now it is on Bandcamp. With gladness and love I hope you enjoy this beautiful music full of adventure, love and respect.
RIP Hasan, thank you for blessing us with your spirit, sound and humanity. You will not be forgotten.
